JOURNEY OF LOVE 2005

Lamar, Texas

Many of you have probably heard about the Journey of Love and wondered what it was all about.  Primarily for coordinators, this conference is usually held in Waukesha, Wisconsin, starts on a Thursday evening and lasts until Sunday morning.  It is an excellent chance for coordinators to network with others throughout the United States and sometimes from other countries.  It is an excellent opportunity to learn more about Schoenstatt spirituality and to enhance and strengthen one's faith with an increased awareness of what it truly means to be a part of the Schoenstatt family.  See Michelle Schoppe's report on her first JOL.

The Journey of Love took a detour in 2005 and was held at the Confidentia Shrine in Lamar, Texas, just outside of Rockport, from June 23 - 26.  Five us (District Coordinators Marlene Gonzalzles, Michelle Schoppe,  John and Kathy Strickland, and Cathy Johnson) made the 12-hour journey to get there in time for the opening Mass.

Preparing for the living rosary march

These state shrines come directly from Brazil and in order to have one, there must be at least 200 active groups.  We have around 300+ groups in Louisiana, but we have to really WANT one.  That means more participation in planned events and fund raisers (these shrines cost upwards of $500).  State shrines are used for special occasions ... rosary marches, SRC activities, etc.  Texas has FOUR state shrines.
